Q&A about GU10 light bulbs

What does GU10 mean on a light bulb?
GU10 is the lamp base or cap of a mains voltage halogen lamp. It has two legs or pins with small 'feet' on the end! An LED GU10 is a retrofit energy-saving replacement for halogen lamps that use the latest LED (Light Emitting Diode) technology.

What are GU10 bulbs used for?
The GU10 is the most common type of spotlight bulb found in most homes today. It is otherwise known as a PAR16 light bulb and is often used in places where a bright, directional light is needed, such as kitchens and workspace.

What kind of 'spotlight' should I choose?
Once you know your current wattage and the color you prefer it’s important to know where you are using the light for. This is because every spot has a different ‘beam angle’. The beam angle of a lamp is the angle at which the light is distributed or emitted. The smaller the angles in degree (D), the narrower the beam. So a smaller beam angle is to highlight your paintings or art. And a wider beam angle is for general lighting. The most commonly used beam angle for general lighting is the one between 24 and 40.

Are LED GU10 Bulbs Brighter than regular bulbs?
LEDs can match the brightness of the incandescent bulb they are replacing.
Like standard bulbs, LED comes in a range of brightness levels. However, LEDs can provide a higher level of brightness with less energy usage. To find out more about brightness levels and wattage, view the question above.

How To Install GU10 LED Bulbs?
The same way as a standard halogen bulb.
GU10 LED bulbs are designed to be retrofitted with ease. Simply install the GU10 in the same way as your normal light bulb.

Can You Replace GU10 Halogen Bulbs With LED?
Yes, you can simply swap out the bulbs when you need to.
It is worth looking at the color temperature of your halogen bulbs to match your LED. This means that your LED will look as similar as possible to your previous halogen bulb, whilst retaining the energy-saving qualities.

Do LED GU10 Bulbs Get Hot?
LEDs maintain a relatively low temperature.
LEDs will be hot to the touch but will not pose a fire risk. LEDs GU10s run at a much cooler temperature than incandescent bulbs.

How Long Do GU10 LED Bulbs Last?
The average GU10 LED bulb lasts approximately 15,000 hours.
