Vanity Lighting for Your Bathroom

The bathroom is one of the most important spaces in your home. It is the place where you start and end the day. In modern families, the bathroom is not only a place for toileting and washing, but people are doing some important things in the bathroom. Such as makeup, skincare, shaving, hair making, and so on. So you should have a well-lit bathroom. Bathroom lighting needs special consideration for task lighting-the type of lighting required to perform a specific task.

What are Vanity lights?

Vanity lights are special lighting fixtures used for mounting above the bathroom vanity. The vanity area is typically comprised of a vanity sink, countertop, and vanity mirror. Vanity lights are considered task lighting and should not be expected to illuminate the bathroom completely by themselves. Be sure to add other layers of light to your room -- ceiling lights and chandeliers (or even a stylish modern flair) are great for ambient lighting throughout the room. The primary function of bathroom sconces and vanity light fixtures is to evenly light your face for all your daily self-care tasks.

Choose the right size

Bathroom light bulbs are a particular subset of lighting fixtures designed to be mounted above the bathroom vanity. The vanity area is typically comprised of a vanity sink, countertop, and vanity mirror. The size of a vanity light depends on the size of your bathroom and the amount of light needed. Also, consider where the fixture will be installed. Furnishings, like a vanity, pedestal sink, and bathroom mirror, will determine the type and placement. Vanity lights are sized according to the number of light sources and are available in single vanity lights or multi-light fixtures. A three-light vanity light is a popular size and works in practically any bathroom type.

How to hang vanity lights

Because they are mainly used for task lighting, the led vanity light bulbs should be placed in the best position to illuminate the head and face evenly and eliminate any shadows that might hinder tasks such as shaving or makeup. In many cases, this requires hanging the light above the mirror. However, some spaces may be best suited for a single or dual bulbs bathroom vanity. If your mirror is narrow enough, place two candlesticks on both sides of the mirror hanging at an appropriate height to project even light onto your face.

Choose a vanity light for makeup

Ideally, makeup enthusiasts will want to use light on either side of the mirror, as above-mirror lighting can sometimes create shadows that make makeup application difficult. If this setup isn’t practical consider using both above-mirror lighting and lights arranged alongside the mirror!

The best lighting for makeup is natural daylight, so when possible take advantage of windows or skylights when designing your vanity space! But when that's not possible, so choosing LED fixtures or vanity bulbs without any colored tint is the next best option. Choose bulbs or LED fixtures that emit light that is as close to white as possible—and be sure to choose bulbs with a high CRI (around 90-100) for the most accurate colors. Bulbs in the "soft white"range of 2700K – 3000K are recommended for general bathroom use and makeup application in particular.
